Workpackage 3: Initial phase: Setting up a tailor-made GEP-implementing change framework for each participating RPO

In this WP the structural and contextual basis for WP4, WP5, WP6, WP8 and WP9 will be prepared. In more detail it has the following objectives

  • -Organise and hold a starting workshop where all partners define the actual starting points by updating the data of the first self-assessment;
  • Role clarification between the RPOs and facilitating organisations;
  • Setting up structures of exchange and knowledge transfer between the RPOs and the facilitating organisations;
  • Setting up a tailor-made change framework for each RPO on the basis of the results of the first self-assessment;
  • Team building and role clarification within the RPO-task-groups, elaborating a community of practice;
  • Providing an overview on existing tools and measures regarding the core topics: career development of female researchers and female staff members, decision making and gender in research and teaching;
  • Exchange of knowledge on existing practices between the RPOs, elaboration of learning modes and possible structures.

Workpackage 4: Implementing GEPs: Focussing on decision making processes and bodies

This WP is focussing on decision making processes within the RPOs which are relevant for the establishment of a GEP and its implementation. The focus lays on the one hand on formal strategic decisions-making processes, such as decisions concerning structural changes, organisational learning opportunities, etc. and, on the other hand, on individual scopes for decision-making processes, thus on the micro-politics of the organisations. The main goals of this WP are:

  • In-depth analysis of decision making bodies and formal strategic decisions-making processes in each RPO;
  • In-depth analysis of human resource development policies and micro-politics in each RPO;
  • Selection and implementation of tools and actions that bring gender equality in the decision making processes and bodies of each RPO;
  • Re-/design and further implementation of tailor-made GEP focussing on decision making.

Workpackage 5: Implementing GEPs: Focussing on recruitment, career development of female

WP5 is dealing with recruitment, retention and career development (structures and processes) of females within the RPOs. GEECCO does not only focus on female researchers, but take a holistic look on the RPOs and also investigate the female students as well as administrative and technical female staff members. Within this WP, the human resources strategies for administrative staff, research and teaching staff, etc. will be analysed and gender-sensitive and genderspecific tailor-made actions will be designed and implemented. This WP will be led by partner PK, all RPOs are involved in main tasks, facilitators support. The structure of the tasks and the links to other work packages are similar to WP4. The main goals of this WP are:- In-depth analysis of recruitment, retention and career development processes in each RPO;

  • Development and implementation of tools and actions that bring gender equality in recruitment, retention and career development of each RPO;
  • Re-/design and further implementation of tailor-made GEPs focussing on career opportunities for females in each RPO.

Workpackage 6: Implementing GEPs: Focussing on the gender dimension in research and teaching

This WP is focussing on gender issues in research, content and culture as well as teaching issues. The main goals are:

  • In-depth analysis of research (content) and teaching procedures in each RPO;
  • Re-/design and further implementation of tailor-made GEP focussing on research and teaching.
  • Deliverables include to establish a sound gender knowledge base by collecting the vast body of already existing feminist and gender literature in the at least four relevant STEM research fields and editing it in an appropriate way as to make it a useful knowledge base for all scientists.
  • Setting up an exhibition that aims to inform and convince both, politicians and funding bodies, about the importance of gender sensitive research for the quality and reliability of new technologies is to be developed. This exhibition aims at raising awareness and lobbying in RPOs as well as in RFOs and towards policy makers by providing significant case studies and fundamental arguments. It will be translated in languages, represented within the consortium, such as German, Polish, Czech, Italian and Spanish, and will be designed as a non-stationary exhibition that can be used throughout Europe.

Workpackage 7: Implementing gender equality in RFOs

This WP will ensure the knowledge exchange and transfer between the participating RPOs and RFOs. The work of RFOs with respect to gender equality will be taken into account at all stages – from designing grant programmes to evaluation criteria and training of researchers and evaluators. In more detail the WP has the following objectives:

  • Exchange of knowledge and best practise between the participating RFOs, RPOs and other experts outside the consortium;
  • Introduction of gender equality into the content of research programmes and projects;
  • Guidelines for gender dimension in the evaluation process of research programmes and projects;
  • Development of at least one programme/call in each RFO reflecting gender dimension in the research and innovation content and in the support conditions for beneficiaries.

Workpackage 8: Support, training and facilitation

This WP aims at supporting and supervising the implementation of the GEPs in each participating RPO. Objectives are:

  • Set up a supporting structure;
  • Develop support tools according to the needs of the RPOs involved;
  • Set up and deliver training workshops to the RPOs;
  • Supervise the implementation of the GEPs.

Workpackage 9: Lessons learnt and dissemination, communication and exploitation

This WP is dedicated to summarise and digest lessons learnt during GEECCO project. Moreover, it will involve dissemination, communication and exploitation activities. Objectives are:

  • Elaboration of communication, dissemination and exploitation strategy and plan;
  • Development of dissemination tools;
  • Organising national dissemination events;
  • Participation in events and conferences;
  • Synergies with similar initiatives and projects;
  • Exchange with funding bodies and other Stakeholders.

Workpackage 10: Monitoring and evaluation

The objective of WP10 is to monitor externally and impartially assess the process, efficiency and impacts of implementing GEPs in each RPO and RFO and, by developing tailor-made evaluation tutorials, to boost partners’ competency in self-steering of gender equality measures implementation during and after the project. Quantitative and qualitative methods will be used to assess structural and cultural change processes based on gender related organisational analysis (WP3).

To this end, the assessment contributes to enhancing and fine-tuning implemented actions over the course of the project in a most sustainable and forward-looking manner. In addition to the external and impartial evaluation, a sex and gender monitoring system will be put into place in each organisation for creating a data baseline for comparison (pre-post intervention). In more detail, WP10 has the following objectives:

  • To assure and improve the quality of the implementation process of GEPs through setting-up of gendered monitoring indicators in each implementing partner institution and external evaluation in the course of the implementation;
  • To develop and utilise tailor-made evaluation and monitoring tools with respect to specific targets and objectives relating to
         (a) awareness and knowledge on gender (in STEM),
         (b) decision making processes and bodies,
         (c) recruitment, career development of female researchers and female staff, and
         (d) the gender dimension in research and teaching, at each implementing partner organisation;
  • To build up monitoring and evaluation capacity within the partner institutions and enable partners to sustain the evaluation and quality assurance mechanisms introduced by the project;
  • To deliver evidence on and impartial expert views of the process, efficiency and impacts of the Gender Equality Plans as well as respective evidence based recommendations on how to achieve the GEP’s objectives.
